After a day of relaxing by the pool, we went to the waterfalls! The story behind the waterfalls was the most interesting, and actually experiencing the waterfalls really made the tall tale come to life. The name Iguazú comes from the guarani people, the indigenous inhabitants of Iguazú. It means "great/big water." Anyway, the tale goes that the guarani tribe had this tradition of sacrificing a young woman every year to their serpent diety that lived in the Iguazu river. One year, the chief of the tribe fell in love with the woman that was to be sacrificed, so he decided to save her. The serpent did not like this, so he parted the river so that the lovers couldn't be together. However, legend has it that every time you see a rainbow, it is the reuniting of the lovers. Thank goodness it was a beautiful day because we got to see a rainbow!
Here's some more pictures of Iguazú!
This was by far one of my top three favorite excursions on this trip!
