La Boca

This past week on January 4, 2011, we took a tour of the city Caminito in La Boca, a neighborhood or "barrio" in Buenos Aires.  Walking down the streets of Caminito, one can see all of the colors and traditions of the locals.  As with the colors of this photo, most of the buildings are painted with bright colors, such as blues, greens, reds, and yellows.

Something interesting we learned from the tour was that the town is named after the Argentinian song, "Caminito," by Carlos Gardel.  The following picture was taken on the streets of Caminito, quoting lyrics from this famous song.

Caminito que el tiempo ha borrado
que juntos un da a nos viste pasar
he venido por altima vez
he venido a contarte mi mal.

This song inspired the people in La Boca many years ago to start the "tango" dance.  While tango is widely known across the United States, Caminito was the main place in Argentina where tango originated.  Because of this history, many restaurants in Caminito have tango dancers to provide their guests with a special dining experience.
